There are pirates, treasure and plenty of action in this adventure of a young girl who gets accidentally caught up in the life of one of the most terrifying sea rovers of all time, in the 1700’s that is. In her attempt to escape the shadow of death, Hannah disguises herself as a cabin boy and walks directly into its path when she boards the sailing ship of Ned Low. Meanwhile in 1930, a professor is entranced by Hannah’s story and sets out on an adventure of her own in an attempt to find the missing treasure and prove the validity of this story claimed to be written by Hannah.
This novel by historian and novelist Katherine Howe checks all the boxes for a great read in the category of historical fiction, especially while out cruising on the water. does not disappoint.
