{"id":383,"date":"2015-07-16T23:36:55","date_gmt":"2015-07-17T03:36:55","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/activeseniorsdigest.ca\/wp_activeseniorsdigest\/?p=383"},"modified":"2015-07-16T23:36:55","modified_gmt":"2015-07-17T03:36:55","slug":"improving-the-lives-of-cancer-patients","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/activeseniorsdigest.ca\/wp_activeseniorsdigest\/?p=383","title":{"rendered":"Improving the lives of cancer patients"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The province of Ontario is supporting world-class cancer research that will increase screening rates and help improve the lives of cancer patients.<\/p>\n<p>The government\u2019s investment is helping the Ontario Institute for Cancer Research (OICR) carry out new research that will focus on increasing screening rates for colon cancer, decrease toxicity for patients undergoing chemotherapy, and improve pain management for cancer patients.<\/p>\n<p>OICR is a research centre of excellence dedicated to cancer prevention, early detection, diagnosis, and treatment. Its researchers are focused on translating new discoveries from the lab into practical applications to help patients.<\/p>\n<p>Through provincial funding, OICR is investing $6.4 million in the Health Services Research Program over four years.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis investment will help the OICR get their discoveries out of the lab faster, improving both prevention and treatment and making a difference in people\u2019s lives,\u201d says Reza Moridi, minister of research and innovation.<\/p>\n<p>The Health Services Research Program is a joint program of the OICR and Cancer Care Ontario, in collaboration with the Institute for Clinical Evaluative Sciences.<\/p>\n<p>For more information visit <a href=\"http:\/\/www.mri.gov.on.ca\" target=\"_blank\">www.mri.gov.on.ca<\/a>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The province of Ontario is supporting world-class cancer research that will increase screening rates and help improve the lives of cancer patients.
