{"id":1275,"date":"2018-02-23T01:38:59","date_gmt":"2018-02-23T06:38:59","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/activeseniorsdigest.ca\/wp_activeseniorsdigest\/?p=1275"},"modified":"2018-02-23T01:38:59","modified_gmt":"2018-02-23T06:38:59","slug":"hospitals-getting-more-support","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/activeseniorsdigest.ca\/wp_activeseniorsdigest\/?p=1275","title":{"rendered":"Hospitals getting more support"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/activeseniorsdigest.ca\/wp_activeseniorsdigest\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/02\/hospital-support.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-1276\" src=\"http:\/\/activeseniorsdigest.ca\/wp_activeseniorsdigest\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/02\/hospital-support.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1000\" height=\"667\" srcset=\"https:\/\/activeseniorsdigest.ca\/wp_activeseniorsdigest\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/02\/hospital-support.jpg 1000w, https:\/\/activeseniorsdigest.ca\/wp_activeseniorsdigest\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/02\/hospital-support-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/activeseniorsdigest.ca\/wp_activeseniorsdigest\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/02\/hospital-support-768x512.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1000px) 100vw, 1000px\" \/><\/a>Patients across Ontario will continue to see improved access to care and reduced wait times thanks to an investment from the province.<\/p>\n<p>Dr. Eric Hoskins, minister of health and long-term care recently announced that the province will be renewing its ongoing support for hospitals to help meet the needs of communities across the province.<\/p>\n<p>Last fall, Ontario provided support to hospitals to open an additional 1,200 beds, increasing capacity during a period of heightened demand.<\/p>\n<p>The province also invested in 150 new transitional care beds at the Reactivation Care Centre (formerly Humber River Hospital) and created space for additional acute care beds at Mackenzie Health; 61 new mental health hospital beds; and six new long-term ventilation hospital beds.<\/p>\n<p>The province is renewing this investment to continue to support hospital by relieving the stress associated with increased demand, giving people greater access to high quality care, closer to home.<\/p>\n<p>Ontario is also investing in more home and community care services and more long-term care beds across the province.<\/p>\n<p>In total, the province will be investing $187 million towards this initiative.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Ontario Hospital Association welcomes the renewal of the government\u2019s surge strategy. This effort has been instrumental in helping hospitals manage extraordinary occupancy pressures this winter,\u201d says Anthony Dale, president and CEO of the Ontario Hospital Association. \u201cTo fundamentally address this challenge, over the next year it is essential to accelerate innovation and the creation of new models of care, further stabilize hospital operations and aggressively build new service capacity across all parts of Ontario\u2019s health care system.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Patients across Ontario will continue to see improved access to care and reduced wait times thanks to an investment from the province.
