Located in central Ontario, approximately two hours from Toronto, Peterborough and the Kawarthas, and the City of Kawartha Lakes boast many unique and interesting attractions.<\/p>\n

Whether it’s navigating down the Trent-Severn Waterway, enjoying a day of fishing on the area’s many lakes or just enjoying a peaceful time in cottage country, there’s something for everyone this summer.<\/p>\n

While rural countryside makes up the majority of this area, it also offers many of the same amenities and services found in its urban counterparts.
\nHere are just a few of the many attractions that can be found.<\/p>\n

PETERBOROUGH AND THE KAWARTHAS<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a>Lang Pioneer Village
\nLang Pioneer Village Museum features over 25 restored historic buildings situated on 25 acres of property, and houses a collection of over 26,000 artefacts.
\nThe Village opened to the public in August of 1967 to preserve the rich heritage of Peterborough County.
\nDuring the summer season, Lang Pioneer Village Museum houses a variety of farm animals including pigs, sheep and goats.
\nLang Pioneer Village Museum houses David Fife\u2019s 1820s log cabin. Fife is accredited with introducing Red Fife wheat to Canada in 1842.
\nThe Lang Grist Mill, originally built in 1846, still grinds whole-wheat flour during the summer season which is available for purchase in the Museum shop.
\nThe newly built S. W. Lowry Weaver Shop & Jacquard Loom Interpretive Centre at Lang Pioneer Village Museum houses one of only a handful of authentic Jacquard looms on display in North America.
\nOnce completed, the Weaver Shop will also feature a fully-operational replica loom with a mezzanine to provide visitors with a unique view of the upper workings of a Jacquard loom.<\/p>\n

Petroglyphs Provincial Park
\nThis provincial park, northeast of Peterborough, features the largest collection of aboriginal drawings in Canada.
\nRoughly 900 petroglyphs feature humans, wildlife and other pictures, carved hundreds of years ago.
\nThere are also hiking trails throughout the surrounding forests, ridges and wetlands.
\nA national historic site since 1976, the park is looked after by residents of the local Curve Lake First Nation.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a>Canadian Canoe Museum
\nThis museum contains the world’s largest collection of canoes, kayaks and paddle watercrafts, more than 100 in all.
\nThis family-friendly venue offers interactive, hands-on galleries, a scavenger hunt, model canoe building and puppet theatre.
\nThe museum store has a wide-range of canoe-themed books, clothing, artwork, media and other gifts.<\/p>\n

Peterborough Museum and Archives
\nNestled off Hunter Street, just drive up the street from the lift locks, this museum has a number interactive exhibits and a collection of notable documents in the archives.
\nThe featured exhibition at the museum until June 24 is If The Shoe Fits: Fashion, Function and Footwear, presented in partnership with Fleming College’s Museum Management and Curator Ship Program. This exhibit examines both historical and modern shoes, highlighting selections from the PMA’s shoe collection.
\nThe archives holds more than 2,000 different collections. Museum staff actively collect a variety of original documentary materials containing information of permanent value.<\/p>\n

CITY OF KAWARTHA LAKES<\/p>\n

Kawartha Settlers Village
\nKawartha Settlers’ Village was established in 1990 on the property of what was once a thriving family farm, with the intent of preserving and protecting the history and culture of Bobcaygeon.
\nThe village is now home to a fascinating collection of more than 20 historic homes and buildings. Experience what life was like for pioneers in the Kawarthas as you stroll leisurely through the village and discover artefacts from 1830 to 1935.
\nThe village features more than 20 historic homes and buildings and offers the experience of what it was like for pioneers in the Kawarthas.
\nThe village is run by the Kawartha Regions Arts & Heritage Society which fosters cultural heritage, education, arts and recreation. A major event to mark on your calendar is the Bobcaygeon Craft Beer and Food Festival to be held at the village on Saturday, Aug. 18 from 12 p.m. to 7 p.m.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a>Adelaide Place
\nGreenwood Retirement Communities – an Ontario based owner\/operator in the senior housing sector, is expanding with a second phase development for Adelaide Place Retirement Community in Lindsay, Ontario.
\nScheduled to break ground in June 2018 and open the winter 2019, the new phase represents a $32 million dollar investment in the community which has been operating in since January 2011.
\nThe next phase will lie adjacent to the existing building, with its main entrance located at 81 Albert Street South.<\/p>\n

Academy Theatre
\nThe Academy Theatre is a multi-use venue located in downtown Lindsay.
\nAttracting more than 50,000 people, the theatre features not only local productions but performances from noted musicians and comedians. The theatre is operated as a non-profit organization.<\/p>\n
