{"id":1518,"date":"2019-06-09T00:18:50","date_gmt":"2019-06-09T04:18:50","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/activeseniorsdigest.ca\/wp_activeseniorsdigest\/?p=1518"},"modified":"2019-06-09T00:18:50","modified_gmt":"2019-06-09T04:18:50","slug":"medicalert-not-enough-people-taking-precaution","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/activeseniorsdigest.ca\/wp_activeseniorsdigest\/?p=1518","title":{"rendered":"MedicAlert: Not enough people taking precaution"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>While one in three Canadians live with a medical condition that needs to be communicated at the time of an emergency, there are still thousands of Canadians who still do not wear a MedicAlert medical ID despite living with a serious health condition, such as diabetes, asthma, allergies, heart conditions, dementia and Alzheimer\u2019s.<\/p>\n<p>This is especially troubling news when you consider only 15 per cent of Canadians are highly confident that emergency services could find their medical history without their support or while they were unconscious. Additionally, one in three Canadians are unsure whether a family or friend would pick up their first phone call in an emergency situation, and less than one in five (19 per cent) are adamant they would receive a response within two minutes.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/activeseniorsdigest.ca\/wp_activeseniorsdigest\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/medicalert1.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-1519\" src=\"http:\/\/activeseniorsdigest.ca\/wp_activeseniorsdigest\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/medicalert1-300x236.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"236\" srcset=\"https:\/\/activeseniorsdigest.ca\/wp_activeseniorsdigest\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/medicalert1-300x236.jpg 300w, https:\/\/activeseniorsdigest.ca\/wp_activeseniorsdigest\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/medicalert1-768x604.jpg 768w, https:\/\/activeseniorsdigest.ca\/wp_activeseniorsdigest\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/medicalert1.jpg 1000w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a>The results come from a recent Maru\/Matchbook survey, which also showed that four in five Canadians (82 per cent) know to look for a MedicAlert medical ID if they come across someone in an emergency situation, which highlights the life-saving importance of wearing a MedicAlert medical ID.<\/p>\n<p>Because Canadians know to look for the medical ID in emergency situation, MedicAlert remains one of the most effective safety measures individuals living with a medical condition can have.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe results of this nationwide survey underscore the critical life-saving importance of wearing a MedicAlert medical ID,\u201d says Robert Ridge, president and CEO of MedicAlert Foundation Canada.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDuring an emergency, MedicAlert speaks for people who are not able to speak for themselves.
