Being prepared in advance of your next appointment can help you make the most of your time with your doctor and have peace of mind.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAs our country faces a second wave of the virus, it will be important that everyone has access to care and feel comfortable and confident with digital healthcare tools and technologies,\u201d explains Dr. Salima Abdulla.<\/p>\n<p>Here are some useful tips to keep in mind ahead of any video consultation:<\/p>\n<p><strong>Be prepared in advance of your appointment.<\/strong><br \/>\nIf you\u2019re using an app, download it ahead of time and register for the service even before an issue comes up.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Have key information ready.<\/strong><br \/>\nCome prepared with a list of your symptoms as well as current medications and allergies to help the physician conduct a proper assessment. Depending on the virtual care tool you\u2019re using, you may be able to input this information ahead of your appointment.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Ensure a private and confidential space.<\/strong><br \/>\nMuch like a doctor\u2019s office, make sure you secure a space that provides you with the privacy you&#8217;ll need during your appointment. This way, you\u2019ll be able to comfortably and confidentially share personal health information. Make sure you have internet connectivity and that your camera is enabled for a face-to-face video call. Don\u2019t forget to block off your work calendar so your colleagues know you\u2019ll be unavailable for a short time.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Share consultation notes.<\/strong><br \/>\nIf you\u2019re not able to reach your family physician, virtual care services like Babylon by Telus Health, a mobile healthcare app, are a great option to connect you with a locally licensed physician for non-emergency issues.
