{"id":2084,"date":"2021-06-03T22:57:43","date_gmt":"2021-06-04T02:57:43","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/activeseniorsdigest.ca\/wp_activeseniorsdigest\/?p=2084"},"modified":"2021-06-03T22:57:43","modified_gmt":"2021-06-04T02:57:43","slug":"senior-couple-loses-home-in-fire","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/activeseniorsdigest.ca\/wp_activeseniorsdigest\/?p=2084","title":{"rendered":"Senior couple loses home in fire"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A Newtonville couple has lost their dream home in a devastating fire and a GoFundMe page has been set up to try and help them.<\/p>\n<p>The fire at Beata and Kevin\u2019s home, a couple in their 60s, broke out on the evening of Sunday, May 16.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis was their dream home, a cabin in the woods and their retirement fund,\u201d reads a letter on the GoFundMe page set up by Beata\u2019s daughter, Sava.<\/p>\n<p>She notes the couple lives in a small town in Newtonville, Ontario where there are no fire hydrants, and while the fire department did the best they could, \u201cthey ultimately had to just watch their house burn down until it was gone.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe fire happened so quickly they weren\u2019t even able to get out items like their IDs or cell phone, and worst of all, the cats got spooked and all hid,\u201d she writes, adding they\u2019re still waiting to find out if any of them survived.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAs a couple in their 60s, this is heartbreaking at this age as this home was their nest egg and if the insurance company doesn\u2019t give them anything, they are truly left with nothing,\u201d Beata\u2019s daughter continues.<\/p>\n<p>As of May 25, $1,521 had been raised on the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gofundme.com\/f\/please-help-my-parents-lost-everything-in-fire?utm_campaign=p_cp_url&amp;utm_medium=os&amp;utm_source=customer\">GoFundMe<\/a> page.<\/p>\n<p>A second <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gofundme.com\/f\/fire-relief-fund-for-kevin-oconnell?utm_campaign=p_cp_url&amp;utm_medium=os&amp;utm_source=customer\">GoFundMe<\/a> page was set up by Kevin\u2019s nephew, Mike, to help support the family as well. As of May 25, $3,305 had been raised so far on this page.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cUnfortunately the house fire claimed everything, including my uncle\u2019s home office, his workshop for his woodworking hobby,\u201d he writes.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe cannot help raise money to bring back family heirlooms, family pictures or in this extremely sad case, pets that couldn\u2019t make it out in time, but it can help get necessities they need, such as clothes, toiletries, or whatever things are needed that were lost.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A Newtonville couple has lost their dream home in a devastating fire and a GoFundMe page has been set up to try and help them.
