Photo courtesy www.pch.gc.ca<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>This year marks the 50th anniversary of Canada\u2019s flag.<\/p>\n<p>The red and white maple leaf flag was first raised over Parliament Hill on February 15, 1965. This is a special milestone ahead of the centennial celebrations in 2017, where Canada will honour the 150th anniversary of Confederation.<\/p>\n<p>This year&#8217;s anniversary will allow Canadians to reflect on the national flag and what it represents \u2014 a strong, proud and free country. The national flag speaks to what this country has accomplished together, ranging from the historical moments that have served to define this country to the promising future Canada has ahead of it.<\/p>\n<p>Celebrations and events will be taking place across the country in honour of this special occasion. One such event will be held at Confederation Park at 10:30 a.m. in Ottawa. Visitors will be able to join the Winterlude Mascots for a flag raising and citizenship reaffirmation ceremony, join the choir in the singing of O Canada, stroll through a photo exhibit of special people and moments that feature the flag, enjoy some birthday cake and more.<\/p>\n<p>For more information, visit www.pch.gc.ca<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>This year marks the 50th anniversary of Canada\u2019s flag.
