A century later, Emile Roy is still showing off his dance skills, exercising three times a week, and cracking jokes.
Roy was born on May 11, 1915.
“It seems to me that people are making a big thing about a birthday. I never had a birthday until I was 52, so a birthday to me is one day like the next,” he says.
Roy grew up in Minto, New Brunswick and moved to Montreal, Quebec at the age of 24, where he lived and worked most of his life.
He moved to Oshawa, Ontario about 15 years ago to be closer to his daughter – something he says he should’ve done sooner.
“Well, the entertainment is better here,” he says. “For an example, in Montreal if you want to go dancing, you just about have to go to a night club that costs a fortune, here (there are) four or five dance halls …they charge you $3.”
He learned many types of dances in Montreal and Florida, including the waltz, foxtrot, and the cha-cha. He is often seen showing off his moves at the parties in the long-term care facility he resides in.
This year, Roy celebrated his 100th birthday with his daughter and other family members.
