Walk for Alzheimer’s: Make memories matter

alzheimers_walk

alzheimers_walkOnce again, Canadians will be gathering across the country again throughout the year to help bring awareness to Alzheimer’s disease and other dementias through the Walk for Alzheimer’s event.

Walk for Alzheimer’s is Canada’s biggest fundraiser, with the money raised going to support programs and services in communities across the country that improve the quality of life for people living with dementia and their families, and support other activities such as education and public awareness, according to the Alzheimer’s Society.

Walks take place in more than 150 communities across Canada. In 2014, 24,000 walkers participated, raising $4.5 million.

In 2016 in Ontario, walks will be taking place in January and in May. So far, events are scheduled in Oshawa, Bancroft, Caledonia, Cambridge, Dunnville, Elliot Lake, Guelph, Mount Forest, Sault Ste. Marie, Simcoe, and Waterloo in January, and in Ottawa and Orangeville in May.

By joining a Walk for Alzheimer’s event, participants are sending the message of hope to the 747,000 Canadians currently living with dementia, and thousands more who care for them.
