Felix, a film scholar who runs an evening movie club, is visited by some friendly ghosts who help him relive his past and offer him solace in some unresolved family issues.
Growing up as the lone male sibling in a family of three children, he reflects on how these women shaped his life. The ghosts fill in some blanks on some of the troubling spots of their histories and help him see the strength and character each developed and the problems they encountered just by being born female. He has a strong relationship with his own daughter, who is a writer for New York Magazine, trying to incorporate her modern day views into her writing.
This is an interesting and clever book that touches on many areas that still affect women today at a time that is striving towards equality of the sexes.
