Life on the farm
Random House of Canada, www.aaknopf.com
Hard Cover, 395 Pages
Rosanna and Walter Langdon raise their children on a farm in Denby, Iowa and try to pass on their values as best they can to their five very different children. We get to know these children and their intimate thoughts as they grow up on this farm during a time when farming is tough, manual labour in the early 1900s.
We learn how this family copes through the war years and struggles to find a place in the changing social and economic climate. We follow along as each child grows into adulthood and makes a choice to stay on in farming or venture into the world into a more profitable lifestyle and easier way of life. For those who were raised on farms, this book will elicit memories of childhood and, perhaps, a simpler time. It’s a good read.
